And how I know this feeling of group work, the differences between each other's knowledge about what to use and for the first time, I managed to do a MSN chat conference. I know it is MSN, but you can't imagine how difficult it is to get the people together at the same time other than meeting physically.
So I don't think it is necessarily an age phenomena of not using certain applications. Even though we might use it on a daily basis, there still is a clear division between work and leisure talk.
People need tangible things to hold on to, to know what is going on in general. It is very rare, that information exchange works via e-mails, skype, MSN, facebook (no matter what tools).
And regarding your ability to help others with Internet. I think, it is because you simply look professional and knowledgeable.
