Joomla! 1.5 Roadshow
Today, my Joomla! tour starts in Solingen, Germany. I have published a Joomla! 1.5 book in december 2007. At this time, we decided to make a tour around Germany, Austria and Switzerland with low cost seminars. It was a bit of an endeavour but finally everything is working fine and I have many bookings.
You can read the book (in german language) complete online
It will be translated in english, french and dutch language. I am trying to bring these versions also online for free.
But now ... Joomla!

Joomla! - a suaheli word
Today I received this email:
Hi!
I am an Arab from Morocco and wanted to pass you a small piece of information only.
You said in your book that The word Joomla! is derived from Jumla from Swahili and means "all together".
That is correct but what people don't know is that Swahili word is borrowed from Arabic and means the same thing:
"Sum", "All", "All together",

Joomla! session at oscms summit 2007
I have offered a session about Joomla! at oscms-summit 2007.
Joomla! is such a young community.
Many people think:
"It will take another year or two before the Joomla! community is as organized and enthusiastic and involved like other communities, f.e. Drupal".
So, until this will happen, I offer an overview of the powerful Joomla! CMS in the meantime.
The more we learn about one another's projects, the stronger our projects will become. Each community has so much to offer.
I have written books in German language about OS projects (Drupal, Joomla!, Apache) and I am sure the Joomla! overview will be interesting for you
.
Thank you Amy for the idea to this session.
To have not only my view in that session, please visit my blog entry about this session and write a comment which part of Joomla! (and Version) I have to cover and what is important to say about the people behind Joomla!.
Please help me with comments what topics I have to cover. What could be interesting for the people there?
Thank you very much for commenting und sorry for my "Spaghetti" English
.

Bloody computers hack me off sometimes
Well, this is the first time I have ever done this. Probably be really boring. It's a beautiful sunny day here in Brixham Devon United Kingdom, although rather chilly outside. I'm in the midst of setting up a new website. I am using joomla for the first time and getting on very well. However, I installed joomla board last night and I have run into problems. Let's hope I can sort it out. Or my own today, my parents are coming round later on for dinner so that would be nice.

My Joomla! 1.0.x book for free!
My German Joomla! book is available as a PDF (12,9 MB) and can be downloaded here.
Official news:
**German computer book publisher Addison-Wesley makes bestselling "Joomla! 1.0" book available for free download**
Munich-based computer book publishers Addison-Wesley have decided to make their author Hagen Graf's bestselling book on Joomla! 1.0 avalaible for free download.
The PDF is fully functional, i.e. printable.
It was the book's author Hagen Graf himself who suggested to offer the content for download. His editor Boris Karnikowski, responsible of Addison-Wesley's open source book program, did not need to be convinced. "The big success of Hagen Graf's book on version 1.0 allows us to publish up to date editions like the one on 1.5 we are currently selling", he says. But while Joomla! is steadily moving towards the 1.5 release, version 1.0 is still famous with many users and - until 1.5 publishes - the only recommended choice for new installations. "The computer book market is very much driven by version numbers & cues", Boris Karnikowski continues, "so version 1.0 content now may seem obsolete to many book sellers - while it certainly is not. By making the book freely available for download we make sure that Joomla! users have access to this content and take advantage of it as long as they stick with Joomla! 1.0."
